Girl with cleft lip and palate from Chad is helped to send to Taiwan for operation

Flying over for almost half of the earth from Chad, Africa, the two little girls are having operations for cleft lip and palate and hand adhesions in Linkou Chang Gung Memorial Hospital today. This is the humanitarian cooperative project among TRMPC, Chang Gung Memorial Hospital and CPC Corporation, Taiwan.

During Chinese Lunar Year in February, TRMPC went to Chad for free medical services. CPC Corporation was having petroleum probe project locally. Working together day and night in Benoye and Bebalem, TRMPC has seen and helped about 2180 patients in this mission.

There were two special cases among the patients, a 5 years old girl, Patricia, has hand adhesions caused by scald. The other 10 years old girl, Sylvienne, is having cleft lip and palate. After the consultation by our physicians, we recommended that both of them should come to Taiwan to get further professional surgery in order to restore their living function later on.

Dr. Liu, the president of TRMPC, appreciates both Linkou Chung Gung Memorial Hospital in charging medical expenses, and CPC Corporation’s helping with interpreter, transportation, meals and accommodation. By the end of May, Ministry of Foreign Affairs helped for their visa and entrance clearance.

Patricia is accompanied by the young mother. Sylvienne is accompanied by her 19 years old brother. Although being shy, she carries sweet smile under the mask.

Dr. Liu of TRMPC, Mr. Hsu from CPC Corporation and volunteers came to the airport to welcome them. Sylvienne saw the medical team members and spoke Chinese in response to them.

Since they all speak Ngambay, Leila as the interpreter comes with the patients and families. The living environment of Chad is non-modern, and most people are living in poverty. TRMPC sent volunteers across half of the ocean to help these little patients to come to Taiwan for the operations.

Concerning about their daily life and mental condition and being surrounded by unfamiliar Asian faces, Dr. Liu said they need more volunteers to take care of. By the cooperation of NGO, enterprises and hospital, the love of Taiwan is without borders.

According to the director of medical teams from Linkou Chung Gung Memorial Hospital, both patients need to have multiple surgeries and reconstruction after surgery. The whole treatment is expected to be about 4 month time for them to have new face and flexible fingers.
